The opening of the new one million square foot, ten floor tower marks the completion of the county’s $899.4 million Capital Improvement Program for the University Health System and the largest construction project in Bexar County’s history. The new Level 1 Trauma tower provides 35 surgical suites, an additional 420 patient rooms and an expanded emergency department (66 treatment areas, including 10 trauma rooms).
The Sky Tower has multiple, covered ambulance bays, along with a special, covered bridge that remains closed until it is needed to rush airlifted patients in from the new helipad.
Texas Air Products provided the project with Ruskin life safety dampers, Vibro-Acoustics sound attenuation products, Flexmaster acoustical duct and Camfil carbon filtration systems.
